Alkyl substituted phenolic resins offer special properties to the rubber products industry. Methylolated or thermo-reactive resins are commonly used in NBR and Chloroprene based adhesives.

Methylolated resins also find use in resin cure system for curing Butyl rubber goods like tire curing bladders and butyl rubber tubes.

Novolak, or non-reactive resins made from alkyl phenol act as tackifiers for providing green tack during build-up of the rubber products, like, tires, belts, treads, hoses, etc.
